Sacrificio e innocenza: una declinazione del sacro nel Canone buddhista pāli
Abstract
Nella società indiana al tempo del Buddha il rapporto con il sacro (inteso come alterità, trascendenza o senso ultimo) si declina in una varietà di modalità e combinazioni e, di conseguenza, produce una varietà di figure distinte eppure intrecciate tra loro. Queste modalità e queste figure assumono tratti specifici all’interno delle scritture buddhiste in lingua pāli, in particolare in quelle canoniche. L’esame di passi esemplificativi del Canone buddhista pāli permette di affrancare l’idea di sacro da reti concettuali strettamente teologiche, di mettere in luce la valenza filosofica di questa declinazione del sacro, e infine di individuare gli scenari pragmaticamente etici che tale declinazione contiene in potenza.
In the Indian society at the times of the Buddha, the relationship with the Sacred (intended as alterity, transcendence, or ultimate meaning/purpose) is conjugated through a range of modes, and thus brings about distinct and yet intertwined figures. These modes and figures assume specific traits within Buddhist scriptures in Pāli language, especially in the Canonical ones. The investigation of illustrative passages from the Pāli Buddhist Canon allows to free up the notion of Sacred from strictly theological conceptual tangles, to shed light upon the philosophical significance of this conjugation of the Sacred, and last to detect the pragmatically ethical scenarios that such conjugation potentially unfolds.
